BC potato growers have hired a new general manager.
Jennifer Winning succeeded long-time general manager Leisa Yee in January and made initial contact with growers during the Pacific Agriculture Show in Abbotsford later in the month.
Winning is no stranger to agriculture, however, having created the Food for Friends program, an initiative that connects local growers and their produce with community fridges operated by the Burnaby Primary Care Network to make fresh produce and other perishable foods available to those in need.
Winning was formerly executive director of the Artisan Farmers Markets Society, which operates three markets in West Vancouver and Burnaby. The role was the culmination of five years working with farmers markets across the Lower Mainland.
She will work closely with BCPVGA president Bill Zylmans, handling the association’s daily affairs and advocating on behalf of the sector.
BCPVGA members meet for their annual general meeting in Tsawwassen on February 25. The event will include a reception giving growers and industry members a chance to meet Winning, following workshops briefing them on the latest research and insights into maintaining soil health and crop wellness.
