Vanderhoof rancher Sarah MacDonald is in Winnipeg this week, one of 23 semi-finalists vying for a spot among this year’s Canadian Cattle Young Leaders.
MacDonald, whose family operates Braemoor Ranch, has served as program coordinator with the BC Cattlemen’s Association and represented the province at the Canadian Cattle Youth Council. She’s also been an active member of the BC Angus Association.
She is the sole BC candidate among the Canadian Cattle Young Leaders program semi-finalists announced in May.
This week, she is participating in judged roundtable discussions on current beef-industry topics at the Canadian Beef Industry Conference, taking place August 17-20 in Winnipeg.
MacDonald received her Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on agribusiness in 2024.
Successful candidates in this week’s competition will be paired with a mentor in their specific area of interest for nine months. They’ll also receive a travel budget to attend industry events, networking experiences and learning opportunities throughout the program year.
Established in 2010, the Canadian Cattle Young Leaders program is open to young people ages 18 to 35 involved in various aspects of the beef supply chain across Canada. It has welcomed more than 200 participants to date.
