Beekman Auctions raised more than $14,000 Wednesday night for Tiny Strong Together to help purchase new equipment for the maternity ward at Chilliwack General Hospital. The money was raised during a live auction at Chilliwack's Heritage Park held in conjunction with a free dinner serving about 1,500 people. The auction -- a new addition to the annual supper event -- was led by auctioneer Ken Friesen and featured sponsored prizes like Abbotsford Canucks tickets, gift cards, cakes and a special-edition Carhartt Beekman hoodie. "We get great support from the community," says Beekman's Gary Baars.

At BC Sheep Federation's annual conference in Coombs this weekend, BC Meats president Bonnie Windsor said BC's Best Butcher competition was created more than three years ago because, "We are so short on butchers everywhere. We need to get more people in the industry." She added the competition encourages butchers to think differently about whole carcass use by giving participants unusual cuts like pork legs. "I want to challenge them," she told sheep producers. She also wants to see restaurants think about whole carcasses, rather than "leaving the industry saddled."

I recognize that hair. You’re rooms are ready here.😊

This is well said! I love being a part of the the BC meats community, and the BC Best Butcher Competition!

My son is a journeyman meat cutter (TRU grad). Highest wage with 10+ years experience is $26/hr. Hard to promote a skilled trade when wages are not competitive.

Premier David Eby has promised to loosen local-sourcing rules for food processors in the ALR if re-elected, even before results of the province’s public consultation have been released. The BC Agriculture Council says the pledge undermines a process farmers took part in good faith. Today's Farm News Update from Country Life in BC looks at where the parties stand on agriculture ahead of the October 24 vote. www.countrylifeinbc.com/premier-called-out-over-alr-pledge/

But he doesn't support local organizations that allow residents to grow their own food like the Blenkinsop Community Agricultural Centre

The party that gets rid of unnecessary and restrictive farm related rules in the ALR is the one that would get my support

Didn’t need a campaign to do this, you had a majority.

We can only hope.

Yes, but based on history, can you believe him?

🤡

I don’t trust him so it doesn’t matter what he says 🤷‍♀️

Ndp has had a decade to fix the alr and alc, too little too late. Eby's time is up

Does he even understand the ALR and it's limitations? Doesn't appear that he does..

End EB!!!

Protect the ALR. Vote Green

It was another sell-out at the 31st annual Fort Langley Cranberry Festival on Saturday with organizers selling 5,000 pounds of locally-grown, fresh berries in less than five hours. Youth from the Fort Langley Lions Club's Young Lions program scooped, bagged and weighed several pallets' worth of cranberries. Ocean Spray donated the berries, which the public bought to benefit the community. Local grower The Bog was also selling fresh berries, having brought 2,700 pounds, which were on track to sell out by the end of the#BCAgt.
